Love gets a literal jolt in Netflix’s upcoming Korean romantic comedy series “Take Charge of My Heart,” starring Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin in a story where one woman’s electric touch could be the key to keeping a man’s artificial heart beating.
Based on the Naver web novel Charge Me Up by Haebeon, the series follows Na Bo-bae (Chae Soo-bin), a woman who develops mysterious electrical powers after being struck by lightning as a child, and Baek Ho-rang (Kim Young-kwang), a third-generation chaebol heir whose life depends on an artificial heart.
Bo-bae has spent years keeping her distance from others. Unable to control the electricity that flows through her body, she wears gloves and avoids physical contact to protect the people around her. But everything changes when she meets Ho-rang and discovers that, unlike everyone else, he is unaffected by her electric touch.
After an unexpected kiss, Bo-bae realizes that Ho-rang could be the “human rubber glove” she has been waiting for. However, Ho-rang initially avoids her, only for their paths to cross again at the hospital.
Ho-rang is preparing for surgery to replace the battery in his artificial heart with a more powerful one. But when a storm causes a blackout and disrupts the procedure, his new battery begins to run low. The unexpected solution? His heart can recharge whenever Bo-bae is near him.
With another surgery three months away and his plans to take over TS Group hanging in the balance, Ho-rang needs Bo-bae’s help to keep his heart running. At the same time, Bo-bae has three months left on her contract as a writer and must finally produce a convincing romance story, despite never having been able to experience a relationship because of her electric touch.
The two strike an unusual deal: Bo-bae will recharge Ho-rang through physical contact, while he helps her complete her own romance bucket list.
The newly unveiled teaser trailer offers a glimpse of their unusual arrangement, from Bo-bae’s childhood encounter with lightning to her discovery that Ho-rang is seemingly immune to her powers. The teaser poster captures the pair holding hands as sparks fly between them and Ho-rang’s artificial heart charges, hinting at the unconventional chemistry in store.
Directed by Park Soo-won and written by Song You-chae, “Take Charge of My Heart” also stars Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin, with NEW POINT and WHYNOT MEDIA serving as producers.
