The independent film that captures the hearts of the Cinemalaya supporters that later landed to the mainstream through Star Cinema recently won the bronze medal in the 2015 New York Festivals. Under the category Best Feature Film, the film was produced by Quantum Film and stars the veteran and multi-awarded actress Vilma Santos.
Ekstra follows the story of a bit-player who wanted to reach her dream and become a star someday. Similar to most of the bit-players, Loida Malabanan (Santos) encounters exploitation of the marginalized laborers like her which became part of the ruling system of the production. The film was directed by Jeffrey Jeturian.
The 2015 New York Festivals was the second film to award Ekstra, the first was the 13th Dhaka International Film Festival where Vilma Santos was awarded with Best Actress.
In the film Vilma was joined by Marlon Rivera, Vincent de Jesus, Ruby Ruiz and Tart Carlo with special participation of Piolo Pascual, Marian Rivera, Cherie Gil, Pilar Pilapil, Tom Rodriguez, Eula Valdez, Cherry Pie Picache, Richard Yap and Terence Baylon.
