A collection of bizarre supernatural encounters and unexplained horrors takes center stage in Night Tales Club, a new Japanese mystery thriller arriving January 2027 exclusively on Disney+ Philippines. Based on the popular short horror story collection by Ichi Sawamura, the six-part series stars Takayuki Yamada as a mysterious storyteller who believes that supernatural phenomena hold clues to a much bigger conspiracy.
The series follows Hojo, a successful businessman fascinated by the inexplicable and determined to solve life’s greatest mysteries. Convinced that ghosts, monsters, curses, and other supernatural occurrences are actually signs of an underlying conspiracy, he establishes the Night Tales Club, inviting people who have experienced strange phenomena to share their stories and evidence. In exchange, he offers 20 million yen in gold to anyone who can help him uncover the truth behind these unexplained events. With six mysterious stories to investigate, Hojo’s search may lead him into horrors beyond his expectations.
Takayuki Yamada portrays Hojo, the central storyteller who connects the different supernatural accounts. Each episode features a different director, bringing distinct creative approaches to the series’ collection of eerie mysteries. The lineup includes Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Wife of a Spy), Takashi Shimizu (Ju-on, The Inugami Family), Shinzo Katayama (Gannibal, The Human Vapor), Yukiko Sode (Aristocrats, All the Lovers in the Night), Yuichiro Sakashita (I Can’t Cry With Your Face, Blonde), and Yosuke Nakamura (Higuma!!, Poison Girl). Kenji Nakajima (The Naked Director, Tokyo Swindlers) will direct the sequences featuring Hojo.
Produced by Yusuke Wakabayashi and Teruhisa Yamamoto, Night Tales Club is adapted for the screen by original author Ichi Sawamura. Expressing his excitement about the television adaptation, Sawamura said he felt enormous surprise and joy knowing that his stories would soon come to life on screen and have the opportunity to frighten audiences around the world.
The upcoming series adds to Disney+’s growing collection of Japanese productions, joining titles such as Gannibal, which follows a police officer who uncovers a horrifying secret in a quiet rural village, and Land of Tanabata, about a university student with an unusual ability who investigates a murder. Subscribers can also explore lighter Japanese entertainment, including the cross-cultural romantic comedy Merry Berry Love and the comedic variety show The One Shot.
Night Tales Club is scheduled to premiere in January 2027 exclusively on Disney+ Philippines, with further details to be announced. The six-episode mystery thriller promises a chilling collection of supernatural encounters as Hojo pursues the truth behind the unexplained.
