The Far Eastern University (FEU) Center for the Arts presents the FEU Bamboo Band in “MALAYA: Songs of Freedom,” a one-night concert celebrating liberty, Filipino identity, cultural heritage, and youth empowerment on September 26, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the historic FEU Auditorium.
Featuring the distinct sound of Philippine bamboo instruments, the one-hour musical showcase explores themes of freedom, resilience, peace, and cultural pride. “MALAYA” reflects on the strength of Filipinos through past struggles while highlighting the values of excellence, integrity, and hope for the future.
The concert’s repertoire brings together Philippine traditions, social commentary, and international songs about peace and freedom. Featured pieces include David Benoit and Nathan East’s “Freedom at Midnight,” Tropical Depression’s reggae classic “Kapayapaan,” the traditional Cordillera folk melody “Salidumay,” and the Scorpions’ “Wind of Change.”
Adding to the evening’s cultural celebration are collaborative performances with the Far Eastern University Chorale, which will join the Bamboo Band for the patriotic anthem “Bayan Ko.” FEU Theater Guild member Heleina Kirstensen Li (IAS ’27) will also perform John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
Led by FEU Bamboo Band Artistic Director Norbie Cads, “MALAYA: Songs of Freedom” brings together music and heritage in a showcase designed for Tamaraws, music lovers, and members of the cultural community.
Tickets are free for the FEU Community with a valid FEU ID, while FEU Alumni with a valid FEU ID may purchase tickets for Php 100. Tickets for the non-FEU community are priced at Php 200.
Non-FEU students with a valid student ID are entitled to a 50% discount, while senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) with valid IDs can avail of a 20% discount.
“Malaya: Songs of Freedom” takes place on September 26, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the FEU Auditorium, offering audiences an evening of music that celebrates freedom, Filipino heritage, and the enduring power of cultural expression.
