Banda Kawayan Pilipinas (BKP) is set to return to Bali, Indonesia, to represent the Philippines at the Bali International Rhythm Competition (BIRC) 2026, happening from September 27 to October 1, 2026, in Nusa Dua, Bali.
Carrying the theme “Harmony in Diversity as a World Cultural Heritage,” BIRC 2026 gathers performing groups from different countries for a celebration of music, rhythm, dance, and cultural expression. The event also provides a platform for cultural exchange, friendship, and connections among artists representing diverse musical traditions.
BKP will be the Philippine participating group at this year’s international gathering, joining ensembles from Poland, Italy, and India, as well as performing groups from Indonesia.
Established in 1973, Banda Kawayan Pilipinas is known for performing Filipino and international music using instruments handcrafted primarily from bamboo. Across generations of musicians, the ensemble has helped showcase the versatility of bamboo instruments while promoting Filipino musical traditions to audiences in the Philippines and abroad.
Its participation in BIRC 2026 continues BKP’s efforts to bring Philippine culture to international audiences and foster cultural connections through music. More than five decades after its founding, the ensemble continues to carry forward a distinctive Filipino bamboo sound while exploring its place in the global music scene.
As Banda Kawayan Pilipinas returns to Bali, it brings a musical tradition shaped by generations of Filipino musicians and a sound deeply rooted in the country’s bamboo heritage, once again putting Philippine bamboo music on the international stage.
