Banda Kawayan Pilipinas brought the sounds of Filipino folk music to South America as it represented the Philippines at the Festival Internacional de Folklore Ashpa Súmaj (FIFAS) 2026, held from October 6 to 12 in Santiago del Estero, Argentina.
As the only Asian delegation in the festival parade, the group showcased the Philippines’ rich musical heritage through traditional bamboo instruments, performing beloved Filipino folk songs, including the Ilocano classic “Pamulinawen.” The familiar melody resonated thousands of miles from home, creating a memorable moment for the Filipino musicians as they performed alongside Argentine and international delegations.

The group also delighted Argentine spectators with its rendition of “Carnavalito,” a traditional Andean folk song. Through their bamboo instruments, the Filipino musicians gave the lively melody a distinctive interpretation, highlighting the versatility of bamboo in bringing different musical traditions to life.
Beyond the parade, Banda Kawayan Pilipinas’ participation became an opportunity for cultural exchange, demonstrating how music can connect people across languages, nationalities, and geographical boundaries.
Through its performance at FIFAS 2026, Banda Kawayan Pilipinas proudly carried the Philippine flag to Argentina, sharing the country’s musical traditions and cultural identity with an international audience.
