Netflix sets August 28 premiere for Korean mystery thriller Mousetrap

Netflix is set to premiere its new Korean mystery thriller Mousetrap on August 28, bringing an unsettling tale inspired by an old Korean folktale that says a rat can transform into a person after eating their clipped fingernails. The eerie legend serves as the foundation for a suspense-filled story about identity, deception, and survival.

The series follows Moon-jae, a reclusive novelist who writes under a pen name and has lived in isolation for years. His quiet routine is suddenly disrupted when his fingerprint no longer unlocks his phone, his passwords stop working, and every trace of his identity begins to disappear. Stripped of his money, his name, and any way to prove who he is, Moon-jae is forced into a desperate search for the mysterious figure known only as “The Rat,” who appears to know everything about him.

Directed by Kim Hong-sun (Dear Hongrang, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area), Mousetrap is based on the acclaimed webtoon Field Mouse.

Ryu Jun-yeol (Revelations, The 8 Show) stars as Moon-jae, joined by Sul Kyung-gu (Good News, Kill Boksoon) as the formidable loan shark Noja, and Lee Kyoo-hyung (Prison Playbook, Hi Bye, Mama!) as detective Sun-yong, who is determined to uncover the truth behind “The Rat.”

Blending psychological suspense with Korean folklore, Mousetrap explores how quickly a person’s life can unravel when their identity is stolen and no one believes who they are.

Mousetrap premieres August 28, exclusively on Netflix.
