A simple requirement becomes an impossible obstacle in “2 Valid IDs,” a full-length film directed by award-winning filmmakers Ma-an L. Asuncion-Dagñalan and Abet Pagdagdagan Raz. The film examines how a basic bureaucratic demand can become a life-changing struggle for those living on the margins, raising questions about identity, dignity, and survival.

The story follows Sylvia, a poor farmer who needs to claim a remittance sent by a relative for the medical treatment of her husband, Ramon, who suffers from severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). However, she is unable to access the money because she is required to present two valid IDs—documents she does not have.
With Ramon’s condition worsening and their limited resources slowly running out, Sylvia is forced to seek the help of a fixer to secure the necessary documents. But in her attempt to prove her identity, she faces a deeper struggle that challenges her faith, conscience, and humanity.

Through Sylvia’s journey, “2 Valid IDs” highlights the realities of Filipinos who encounter barriers in systems meant to serve them. More than a story about identification, the film explores how people fight to be seen, recognized, and given a chance to survive.

Directed by Ma-an L. Asuncion-Dagñalan, known for her award-winning film “Blue Room,” and written by Abet Pagdagdagan Raz, recipient of the 2023 FAMAS Award for Best Screenplay for “La Traidora,” the film brings together two storytellers dedicated to narratives rooted in the human experience.
Starring Marietta Subong, Meryll Soriano, Joey Marquez, and Zaijian Jaranilla, with Ma-an L. Asuncion-Dagñalan as director/producer under DGPI and Abet Pagdagdagan Raz as screenplay writer, “2 Valid IDs” offers a powerful reflection on identity, hardship, and the choices people make when survival is at stake.
