Following its acclaimed Philippine staging and strong audience response, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific returns to the stage for a limited comeback run, giving theatergoers another opportunity to experience one of Broadway’s most enduring musicals.

Presented by the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music in partnership with the College of Commerce and Business Administration, the production originally formed part of the Conservatory’s 80th Founding Anniversary celebration. Its return comes after receiving rave reviews from both audiences and critics.

Set in the South Pacific during World War II, South Pacific weaves together stories of love, courage, hope, and the struggle to overcome deeply rooted prejudice. The beloved musical features Rodgers & Hammerstein classics such as “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Bali Ha’i,” “Younger Than Springtime,” and “Happy Talk.”

Directed by Paolo O’Hara, the comeback production features singer, actress, and television personality Ciara Sotto as Nellie Forbush and acclaimed composer, music director, and classical-contemporary vocal artist Jose Vera Perez as Emile de Becque.

Joining them are Nenen Espina as Bloody Mary and Sean Nolasco as Lt. Cable, alongside an ensemble of talented performers. The production is further elevated by the exceptional UST Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Daniel Bartolome, bringing Rodgers & Hammerstein’s iconic score to life through powerful orchestral and vocal performances.

With its memorable music, compelling characters, and timeless themes, South Pacific continues to resonate with generations of theater audiences. Its exploration of love and prejudice remains as relevant today as when the musical first captivated Broadway audiences.

The comeback production will have only eight performances at The Proscenium Theater in Rockwell, Makati, giving audiences a limited opportunity to see the celebrated musical live.

Performances are scheduled on September 12 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for the Opening Night Gala, September 13 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., September 18 at 7:30 p.m. for an exclusive performance, September 19 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for the Gala exclusive performance, and September 20 at 2 p.m.
