Disgust often makes people look away, but Soursplash invites viewers to confront the feeling and examine what it reveals about society, identity, and belonging.
Running until September 1, 2026, the exhibition features 15 active and probationary members of the MakiSining Art Group at the Chua King Ha Galleries on the fifth floor of the Tan Yan Kee Academic Building at the University of the East (UE) Caloocan.
The exhibition explores how the instinctive urge to recoil can develop into social judgments about purity, fear, acceptance, and belonging.
Soursplash is part of the UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design’s Sangang-Daan (Crossroads) series, a platform for mentorship and creative collaboration connecting the college with its alumni, local creative groups, and the wider community.
Founded in 2011 in Los Baños, Laguna, MakiSining is an interdisciplinary collective that fosters dialogue and collaboration among visual artists, scientists, and cultural workers.
As the primary exhibition venue of UE Caloocan’s College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design, the Chua King Ha Galleries provide a space where emerging artists, alumni, and established creative practices intersect.
Using the idea of a “crossroads,” Soursplash examines the intersections of personal history, physical space, and social commentary while challenging audiences to reconsider what society accepts, rejects, or places at the margins.
