Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) provided beneficiaries from Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Inc. (TWHI) and the QC Performing Arts Development Foundation, Inc. (QCPADFI) with an opportunity to experience the arts through a special screening of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical at The Theatre at Solaire in July.
Made possible through UnionBank’s long-standing partnership with GMG Productions, the theater experience gave beneficiaries an opportunity to step outside their usual environments, discover new perspectives, and find inspiration through a world-class stage production.
For members of QCPADFI, a nonprofit organization that supports the artistic development of young performers, the experience offered lessons in creativity, confidence, and self-expression. The production also gave the children and aspiring artists a closer look at the creative and technical elements behind a musical, including acting, stage direction, lighting, and production design.

Hanzel Estrella, Program Director of QCPADFI’s Vocal Ensemble, said the experience provided valuable lessons that the young participants could carry with them beyond the event. For many of the organization’s members, it was also their first opportunity to see a globally recognized musical in a world-class theater.
The event was equally meaningful for TWHI beneficiaries, reflecting UnionBank’s long-standing partnership with the organization in creating opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
In 2018, UnionBank established a satellite Command Center at TWHI’s facility in Cainta, Rizal, where participants received IT and basic programming training. The initiative eventually led to the employment of PWDs who continue to work remotely under the Bank’s supervision, along with additional project-based engagements.
The theater invitation extended that partnership beyond employment by providing TWHI beneficiaries with an opportunity for recreation, inspiration, and social inclusion. Erika D. Villaflores, TWHI Public Relations and Fundraising Officer, described the experience as a welcome break from their usual routine and an opportunity to enjoy a different environment.
The initiative is part of UnionBank’s flagship corporate social responsibility program, GoBeyond Communities (GBC), which aims to uplift individuals and communities through opportunities that create lasting impact. Guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on education, employment and livelihood, environment, and inclusion, GBC supports programs designed to help communities learn, grow, and thrive.
Carl De Luzuriaga, UnionBank Organizational Development Head, said meaningful experiences can help uplift beneficiaries, particularly those from underserved communities, while strengthening the Bank’s connection with the communities it serves.
As UnionBank continues to expand its GoBeyond Communities initiatives, the Bank remains focused on creating opportunities that promote learning, inclusion, confidence, and participation. Through programs that go beyond banking, UnionBank seeks to inspire communities, broaden perspectives, and help more people realize their potential.
