The Department of Education (DepEd) will implement the Strengthened Senior High School (SSHS) Curriculum in all public and private senior high schools starting School Year 2026–2027 to provide learners with clearer pathways toward higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, and skills development.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the strengthened curriculum is designed to give learners a clearer sense of direction after completing basic education.
The SSHS Curriculum aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to make basic education more responsive to the needs of learners, teachers, communities, and the economy—ensuring that graduates are better prepared for life, work, and nation-building.
“Gusto nating mas malinaw sa bawat senior high school learner kung saan papunta ang kanilang pinag-aaralan—kolehiyo man, trabaho, negosyo, skills training, o public service,” Angara said.
“Hindi dapat malito ang bata sa dami ng subjects o sa pathways na hindi tugma sa kanyang pangarap. Dapat ang Senior High School ay tumutulong sa kanila na maghanda para sa totoong buhay,” he added.
The new curriculum responds to feedback and studies on the previous SHS curriculum by addressing issues of fragmentation, subject congestion, and limited flexibility.
By streamlining tracks and core subjects, the new curriculum improves instructional efficiency while significantly expanding learner choices through targeted academic and technical-professional electives.
Under the revised framework, Academic Track learners may take electives across clusters such as Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities; Business and Entrepreneurship; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); Sports, Health, and Wellness; and Field Experience.
Meanwhile, Technical-Professional (TechPro) Track learners may take electives aligned with training regulations and industry needs, including agriculture, food innovation, construction, creative arts and design, hospitality and tourism, industrial technologies, ICT, maritime, and human care.
Amid these adjustments, DepEd assured Senior High School educators that no public school teacher will lose employment due to the streamlining of core subjects.
“Malinaw ang ating assurance sa public school teachers: walang mawawalan ng trabaho dahil sa SSHS curriculum,” Angara said.
“Ang ginagawa natin ay inaayos ang curriculum para mas malinaw ang direksyon ng learners, habang sinisigurong ang ating mga guro ay may teaching load, suporta, at malinaw na role sa transition.”
Under the transition plan, current SHS teachers previously teaching the core subjects may be assigned to handle relevant electives, work immersion support, field experience management, or learning remediation programs based on their qualifications.
For private educational institutions, DepEd noted that while teaching loads may be adjusted due to the new structure, schools can likewise reassign teachers to teaching electives, as well as to various learning support functions that match their credentials.
To support continuity, DepEd has released a separate memorandum on the pilot implementation of the Grade 12 SSHS Curriculum for the 887 pilot schools that initiated the program in SY 2025–2026 ahead of the full rollout. For private senior high schools, the implementation of the SSHS curriculum will be aligned with existing government permits and recognition requirements.
