The Bodyguard: The Musical is more than just a stage adaptation of the beloved 1992 film. It is a celebration of Whitney Houston’s timeless music and a treat for fans who grew up loving both her voice and the story of star-crossed fame and protection.
Thanks to the collaboration between 9 Works Theatrical and Rockwell, the production shines as a fitting opening for the newly inaugurated Proscenium Theater, setting a high standard for future performances in the venue.

Leading the powerhouse cast, Christine Allado as Rachel Marron delivers a commanding and heartfelt performance that captures both the diva’s strength and vulnerability. Her vocal prowess, matched beautifully by Sheena Palad as Nicki Marron, gives audiences a truly unforgettable musical experience, especially with the accompaniment of a live orchestra that adds richness and depth to every number. Matt Blaker perfectly embodies Frank Farmer’s quiet charm and protective presence, balancing the show’s emotional tension and romantic undercurrent.

Vien King also stands out in his mysterious role, bringing intensity and unease even from the shadows. His controlled movements and quiet menace create a palpable sense of danger, contributing to the story’s suspense without ever needing to say a word.
The cast of The Bodyguard delivered an amazing performance, featuring CJ Navato, Tim Yap, John Joven-Uy, Jasper Jimenez, Paji Arceo, Jasmine Fitzgerald, Radha, Fay Castro, Winchester Lopez, Carmelle Ros, Richardson Yadao, Iya Villanueva, Vyen Villanueva, Alex Aure, Julio Laforteza, Natalie Duque, PJ Rebullida, Lorenz Martinez, and Lani Ligot.

While there were moments when scene transitions felt slightly slow, which is understandable given the complexity of set changes, the overall production remains breathtaking. The karaoke scene and the show-stopping duets, particularly Allado and Palad’s soaring renditions of “All the Man That I Need” and “All at Once,” left the audience in awe, a true showcase of vocal mastery and emotion.
The Bodyguard: The Musical is not just a show. It is an experience, a heartfelt tribute to Whitney Houston’s legacy, a showcase of Filipino theatrical excellence, and a shining testament to the power of music that continues to move audiences decades later.
