Possible Love, directed by Lee Chang-dong and starring Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Zo In-sung, has been named South Korea’s official selection for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards®.
The acclaimed film, which marks Lee Chang-dong’s first feature in eight years, will make its global Netflix debut on November 6, following its theatrical release in South Korea and other international markets.
The Korea Film Council (KOFIC) cited the film’s exceptional quality, visual craftsmanship, and Lee’s ability to create deeply human characters and explore complex relationships.
Possible Love follows two married couples whose lives become intertwined when a documentary filmmaker sets out to capture the story of a couple struggling after years of hardship. As they spend a summer together, old wounds, tensions, and hidden desires begin to surface. The film stars Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Zo In-sung
The film has already earned selections at major international festivals, including the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, 51st Toronto International Film Festival, 64th New York Film Festival, 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival, 22nd Zurich Film Festival, and 45th Vancouver International Film Festival.
Possible Love opens in Korean theaters on September 23, before arriving in Australia on October 22 and the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, and Japan on October 23. The film premieres globally on Netflix November 6.
