Rising P-pop group DNA is embracing the journey of self-discovery with the release of its self-titled debut album, a coming-of-age record that encourages listeners to celebrate their individuality while navigating life’s highs and lows.
Released under ABS-CBN’s StarPop, the album explores themes of self-confidence, friendship, love, anxiety, and personal growth through eight tracks that reflect the trio’s evolving artistry.
Made up of sisters Julia, Tasha, and Ezri Mitra, DNA sees the album as a snapshot of where they are in their musical journey. Rather than sticking to one style, the trio experimented with different sounds to discover their own identity, an experience they believe many listeners can relate to.
“DNA as an album, you’ll see there’s a lot of variety in it. It’s us just exploring and experimenting to find what our sound is,” the group shared, adding that the album reflects a stage in life when people are still figuring themselves out. “It’s something everyone can relate to because everyone has a time in their life when they’re still figuring themselves out.”
The album features “DNA,” “Don’t Ask Me Why,” “Spider,” “Speeding Ticket,” “Lessons,” “BINGO,” “Glow Up Diary,” and “Gala To The Max.” The members took an active role in writing and conceptualizing every track, making the project a personal reflection of their experiences. Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid also lent her expertise by producing “Glow Up Diary.”
Leading the release is “Spider,” an introspective track about the silent battles many people face within themselves. Produced and co-written by Jonathan Manalo, ABS-CBN Music’s head of creatives, content, and operations, together with Robert Pereña, the song offers a message of hope for those searching for light during difficult times.
DNA first gained attention with the empowering anthem “Don’t Ask Me Why,” which has already surpassed 100,000 Spotify streams and was featured in the iWant original series “Miss Behave.” The trio later showcased its versatility with the upbeat “BINGO” and SM Supermalls’ official summer anthem, “Gala To The Max.”
With its debut album, DNA hopes to inspire listeners to embrace every stage of their personal journey. As the trio continues to discover its own musical identity, it also reminds fans that growth is not always a straight path and that finding yourself is a story worth celebrating.
