PETA Theater and Repertory Philippines brings back Caredivas – Now in Onstage, Greenbelt 1 on April 27-29!

After the successful presentation of PETA Theater of the original Filipino musical Caredivas in their theater in Quezon City, Repertory Philippines in the 45th anniversary collaborated with them to bring this brilliant show in Onstage, Greenbelt 1 in Makati City on April 27-29, 2012. Still with same and dynamic cast including Melvin Lee, Vincent De Jesus, Phil Noble, Buddy Caramat, Dudz Teraña, Jason Barcial and Eric dela Cruz they will bring a roller coaster of emotions to the theater lovers of Makati and nearby places. Also included in the performances are featured guest artists including Paul Holme, Ricci Chan, Jerald Napoles, Myke Salomon, Angeli Bayani together with Miguel Hidalgo and Dominic Miclat-Janssen.

Now joining the cast of Caredivas is the veteran actress and Repertory Philippines’ Children’s Theater Artistic Director, Joy Virata joins the cast as Adara and Sara which was previously played by PETA President, Cecilia Garrucho. With a bigger stage, the production agreed to add cast members for fill in some positions in the ensembles and new design in the set up. The collaboration was headed by the Caredivas’ director and member of PETA Maribel Legarda, and Repertory Philippines’ Marketing Manager Rem Zamora and Associate Artistic Director Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo.

Caredivas was written by Liza C. Magtoto. The musical follows the journey of five (5) overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Israel who works as care givers. Five friends include Shai who is the leader of the group, always haunted by the image of her mother who expects so much from her. Then there was Kayla who is always transferring employers and has become an illegal migrant worker. The third one is Chelsea, who seems to have it all—a very tolerant and kind employer and a potential lover. Lastly there’s also Thalia and Jonee are part of the group they formed to perform in small time joints just so they can release their creativity.

Each of them has two sides of the story, the pain and issues caused by their work as caregivers and the problems from their family at home. But there’s also the fun and friendship that make them strong and keep moving on with their lives in the foreign land. This is how the story of the caredivas, they give care and love with the old people in Israel and they have fun as divas by weekend. Its brilliant story that will touch the lives of every theater lovers and have a heart for the LGBTs and fellow Filipinos working abroad for their families.
