I had the chance to visit one of the famous seafood restaurants in General Santos during my 4-day stay at the city during the Soccsksargen Blogfest 2.0 last November. I am referring to the Red Trellis Seafood Garden located at the Tiondson Extension Corner Calina Street in Langao just in front of the Notre Dame IBED. This restaurant offers a wide range of seafood dishes from crabs, prawns, squids, tuna and many more.

Here are some of the dishes that I tried at the Red Trellis Seafood Garden:

Halabos na Hipon or Steamed Shrims/Prawns – I can hardly see this kind of big juicy prawn in Manila and the serving is good for 3-4 persons. It cost Php 100 per 100 grams per order. You can actually taste its freshness because of the sweetness and the tenderness of the meat. Not to mention the juices when you tear off the head and best dipped with spicy soy sauce and calamasi. Diners can actually request on how prawns can be cooked aside from the usual halabos, there with cocomilk, Szechuan sauce, Sweet Chili, Tamarind with Butter, Garlic Sauce and Lemon Butter Sauce.

As I enjoyed the steamed prawns, the Grilled Squid with Red Trellis Sauce is perfect with steamed rice. It only cost Php 200 and good for 2-3 persons per order. The squid was grilled completely but you can still enjoy the tenderness of the meat and made it more scrumptious with the special Red Trellis sauce.

Crabs with Coco Milk – Like the prawns its cost Php 100 per 100 grams and diners can suggest on how it will be prepared. Mine is with spicy coconut milk. The serving was big and good for 3-4 persons. What I love with this crustaceans in General Santos City is that aside from being big, it has lots of meat and fat (aligue) that compliments well with coconut milk, chili flakes, and chopped ginger.

Red Trellis Seafood Garden suggests that their diners should eat at their restaurant with bare hands so that they can fully enjoy their shelled dishes especially the crabs and prawns. With the garden ambiance that offers a relaxing mood and cool breeze everyone will really enjoy a delicious dinner with their friends and family members.
