Netflix is bringing together Korean actor Son Suk-ku and Japanese actor Eita Nagayama in The Blue Road, a crime thriller about two detectives from different countries who join forces to investigate a series of disturbing cross-border murders.
Premiering on November 20, the series follows Kim Seok (Son Suk-ku), a detective from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and Inose (Eita Nagayama), a detective from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Their investigation begins after victims are discovered with their bodies grotesquely contorted and accompanied by cryptic messages.
Set in 2002, during the Korea-Japan FIFA World Cup, the story explores the challenges of an international investigation as the two detectives navigate cultural differences, conflicting approaches, and their own personal agendas in pursuit of the killer.
The case takes an unsettling turn following the abduction of a young girl and the discovery of another gruesome victim. Kim Seok proposes working with Inose to solve the murders, but the Japanese detective initially refuses, insisting that catching the perpetrator is his only priority.
As the investigation progresses, the detectives encounter several individuals who could hold crucial clues to the killings. Among them is Li Yoon-ok (Kim Shin-rock), a Zainichi Korean businesswoman who challenges the detectives’ determination; Seo Hyun-tae (Jung Jae-young), a powerful figure in Japan’s criminal underworld who eventually confronts Kim Seok; and Yoon Soo-kyung (Choi Sung-eun), a government agent whose interests clash with Inose.

The series also introduces a mysterious man fascinated by the eerie sounds of snapping bones, raising questions about his possible connection to the murders.
Beyond its murder investigation, The Blue Road features intense action sequences and an international setting, with locations ranging from the snow-covered landscapes of Central Asia to the densely populated Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong.
Directed by Han Jun-hee, the series brings together an ensemble cast led by Son Suk-ku and Eita Nagayama, alongside Kim Shin-rock, Choi Sung-eun, and Jung Jae-young.
With its cross-border investigation, complex characters, and hard-hitting crime narrative, The Blue Road promises a gripping addition to Netflix’s Korean and Japanese original programming.
The Blue Road premieres November 20, exclusively on Netflix. Watch it at netflix.com.
