The heat is officially turning up as Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender returns for its third and final season in 2027, with Aang and the Gaang heading deeper into the Fire Nation. Netflix has unveiled a first look at the upcoming season, featuring Daniel Dae Kim returning as Fire Lord Ozai as the heroes face greater danger, destiny, and familiar faces.
The final season follows the dramatic events of Season 2, which left Aang (Gordon Cormier) in critical condition after Azula (Elizabeth Yu) struck him with lightning while he was in the Avatar State. The attack could have devastating consequences for Aang and the entire Avatar Cycle, while Zuko (Dallas Liu) betrays the Gaang and once again aligns himself with Azula, Fire Lord Ozai, and the Fire Nation.
Season 3 will explore the consequences of Aang’s near-death experience, including the mental challenges he faces as he struggles with his identity and the possibility that his death could have ended the Avatar Cycle. Executive producer Christine Boylan revealed that the creative team had been planning the transition from Season 2 into Season 3 since the beginning of the writers’ room, while also teasing her excitement over Azula’s storyline in the final season.
Returning alongside Cormier, Liu, Yu, and Kim are Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Miya Cech as Toph, and Maria Zhang as Suki. The upcoming season also features Jon Jon Briones as Piandao, Tantoo Cardinal as Hama, Terry Chen as Jeong Jeong, Dolly De Leon as Lo and Li, Lily Gao as Ursa, Madison Hu as Fei, and Dichen Lachman as Yangchen. Production on the third season has already wrapped.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3 is set to premiere in 2027 on Netflix, bringing the live-action adaptation to its final chapter. As Aang and his friends venture deeper into the Fire Nation, the series will move toward the conclusion of their journey to restore balance to the world.
