Filipino moviegoers are in for a bigger and more immersive adventure as DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island arrives at SM Cinema branches nationwide on September 23, 2026, bringing a story rooted in Filipino mythology and culture to the big screen.
The animated adventure follows lifelong best friends Jo and Raissa, whose final night together takes an unexpected turn when they are transported to Nakali, a mystical island populated by creatures inspired by the Filipino folklore they grew up hearing. As they search for a way home, the friends face a difficult choice that could cost them the memories that have shaped their friendship.
Marking DreamWorks Animation’s first animated feature centered on Philippine mythology and culture, Forgotten Island introduces Filipino folklore and mythical creatures to global audiences while exploring friendship, family, memory, and the experience of growing apart.
For Filipino audiences, the film’s Philippine release is especially meaningful, as the country serves as the first stop of the “Tayo Na!” tour. SM Mall of Asia will host the first major Philippine fan stop, bringing audiences closer to the cast and filmmakers, including Liza Soberano, H.E.R., directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, and producer Mark Swift.
The film also spotlights Filipino and Filipino-diaspora talent, with H.E.R. voicing Jo and Liza Soberano as Raissa. Joining them in the voice cast are Lea Salonga, Dolly de Leon, Manny Jacinto, Jo Koy, and Amielynn Abellera.
Behind the film, Filipino-American filmmaker Januel Mercado co-writes and co-directs with Joel Crawford, with Mark Swift serving as producer. Their creative involvement adds a personal connection and cultural specificity to a story inspired by Filipino folklore and family storytelling.
