Netflix has announced the production and cast of Dochabi (working title), a new Korean period action drama that brings together Kim Do-hoon, Jun Jong-seo, Lee Joon-gi, Lee Sang-yi, and Bae In-hyuk.
The film follows Tae-san, a former soldier living in hiding deep in the mountains with Ahai, a Jurchen woman, near a borderland where farmers have established settlements. When commander Yi Do-gwan begins hunting the farmers while wearing a mask, Tae-san is forced to fight back. As he becomes entangled in a mysterious conspiracy and is framed as the leader of the invaders, he transforms into the figure known as “Dochabi,” a protector who fights for those being persecuted.
Kim Do-hoon, known for Moving, Your Honor, and Love Scout, stars as Tae-san. The role sees him combining emotional depth with intense action as Tae-san survives against overwhelming odds and becomes a mysterious figure feared by his enemies.
Jun Jong-seo, whose credits include Ballerina, The Call, and Project Y, plays Ahai, a Jurchen woman hiding with Tae-san. Skilled in combat and exceptionally agile, Ahai fights alongside him as they face the growing threat surrounding them.
Meanwhile, Lee Joon-gi takes on the role of Yi Do-gwan, a powerful commander of the border region whose ambition and hunger for power drive much of the conflict. Lee Sang-yi plays Park Se-ryong, an inspector investigating reports of masked figures in the north while harboring suspicions about Yi Do-gwan. Bae In-hyuk portrays Crown Prince Yeolhwagun, a compassionate royal who carries a strong sense of responsibility toward people suffering under the invaders.
Dochabi reunites director An Tae-jin, whose acclaimed debut The Night Owl earned critical praise, with writer Hwang Sung-gu, known for The King’s Warden and Anarchist from Colony. The film is produced by Ondaworks, the company behind The King’s Warden.
With its combination of historical drama, mystery, masked warriors, and action, Dochabi aims to offer a fresh take on the Korean period action genre. The film is coming exclusively to Netflix.
