The Department of Education (DepEd), under the leadership of Education Secretary Sonny Angara, is accelerating the expansion of its workforce with the hiring of new teachers and non-teaching personnel, as well as the promotion of thousands of education professionals nationwide.
DepEd has nearly completed its 2025 hiring targets, filling 19,320 of the 20,000 Teacher I positions authorized under the 2025 General Appropriations Act, or 96.6 percent of the total allocation. The Department said the additional teachers are helping address classroom shortages and improve the quality of instruction in public schools, in line with the education priorities of the Marcos administration.
“Every teacher we hire is an investment in better learning outcomes for our children. We are committed to filling these positions as quickly and transparently as possible while ensuring that our schools have the people they need to deliver quality education,” Angara said.

For newly appointed Teacher I Lorely R. Dizon of Arturo Arce Ignacio Integrated School in Calapan City, joining DepEd fulfilled a long-time dream of serving learners in the public school system. Before her appointment in March 2026, Dizon worked as an Administrative Aide at Mindoro State University and later served as a substitute teacher in several public schools.
“Ang aking commitment po sa bawat araw na pagsasamahan namin sa apat na sulok ng aming classroom ay nagmumula po sa extra care na maia-offer namin bilang mga guro ng DepEd. Ako po ay lubos na nagpapasalamat. Maraming-maraming salamat po sa pagbibigay sa akin ng pagkakataon na maging parte ng DepEd,” Dizon said.
The Department has also filled 9,937 of the 10,000 Administrative Officer II positions created in 2025, equivalent to 99.37 percent of its target. The additional administrative personnel are expected to improve school operations and allow teachers to focus more on classroom instruction.
Administrative Officer II Marie S. Carvajal of Bulusan Elementary School in Calapan City said the expanded workforce has strengthened school operations while opening more opportunities for professional growth.
“Pagbubutihin pa namin yung trabaho namin at tutulong pa kami abot sa aming makakaya sa community, sa teachers, sa principal kasi nandoon naman sa aming sinumpaang trabaho na gagawin namin yun nang bukal sa aming puso,” Carvajal shared.
Building on these achievements, DepEd has started the hiring and deployment of 32,916 new Teacher I positions authorized under the Fiscal Year 2026 budget.
The Department is also expanding school support services through the creation of 6,000 School Principal I positions, 11,268 Administrative Officer II positions, and 5,000 Project Development Officer I positions. In addition, 10,000 School Counselor Associate I positions have been approved following the Civil Service Commission’s approval of the qualification standards. DepEd field offices may begin hiring once they receive the Notice of Organization, Staffing, and Compensation Action (NOSCA) from the Department of Budget and Management.
Alongside recruitment, DepEd has promoted 81,929 personnel under the Expanded Career Progression System, including 79,580 teachers and 2,349 school heads.
To further strengthen the education workforce, the Department has also trained 607,574 teaching and teaching-related personnel nationwide while streamlining the Results-Based Performance Management System by reducing documentation requirements, allowing educators to devote more time to teaching and improving student learning.
