Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins is an upcoming Filipino horror anthology film produced by Regal Entertainment and the seventeenth installment in the long-running Shake, Rattle & Roll film series. Directed by Shugo Praico, Joey de Guzman, and Ian Loreños, the film continues the franchise’s tradition of presenting chilling stories rooted in Filipino culture and folklore. It is an official entry in the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival, highlighting its significance in contemporary Philippine cinema.

The film is structured around three interconnected segments set in different time periods: the past (1775), the present (2025), and the future (2050). Each segment presents a unique horror narrative while collectively exploring the enduring presence of evil across generations.

Set during the Spanish colonial period, the 1775 segment follows a group of nuns trapped inside a cloister after an unknown evil is unleashed. As night falls, faith and survival are put to the test. Carla Abellana stars as Madre Clara, a nun gifted with prophetic visions, alongside Janice de Belen as the strict Mother Superior Madre Juana. The ensemble cast includes Loisa Andalio as Hermana Flor, Ysabel Ortega as Hermana Rita, Ashley Ortega as Hermana Salve, Elijah Alejo as Hermana Ana, Arlene Muhlach as Madre Josefa, Ara Mina as Madre Piedad, and Monina Lawrence as Madre Rosa.

In 2025, the story shifts to a modern setting where a group of young people attend a Halloween masquerade ball. What begins as a glamorous celebration quickly descends into terror when a serial killer attacks the party. Francine Diaz plays Faye, the daughter of caterers, while Seth Fedelin portrays Sean, the illegitimate son of a governor. The cast also features Fyang Smith as DJ Elle, JM Ibarra as James, Althea Ablan as Pia, Karina Bautista as Callie, Sassa Gurl as Sky, Dylan Yturralde as Marco, Arkin Lagman as Ice, Alex Calleja as Bano, and Kaila Estrada as DJ Nyxx.

The final segment, set in 2050, depicts a post-apocalyptic Philippines ruled by the aswang. Humanity struggles to survive as resistance groups rise to fight these creatures of folklore. Richard Gutierrez stars as Rosdan, an orphan turned community leader battling the aswang, with Ivana Alawi as Edris, a mysterious young woman connected to the 2025 events. Manilyn Reynes appears as Malena, Faye’s mother, alongside Dustin Yu as Riel, Matt Lozano as Dong, Celyn David as Drea, Sarah Edwards as Mia, Raven Rigor as Bomen, Angelica Lao as Vexa, and Shecko Apostol as Dravo.

Through its three time-spanning narratives, Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins examines how evil persists and transforms throughout Philippine history. Combining historical horror, modern slasher elements, and dystopian folklore, the film aims to expand the franchise’s mythology while delivering a horror experience for both longtime fans and new audiences.
