Will the film adaptation of Dan Brown’s Inferno presents the controversial “Gates of Hell”?

It is official, after the successful film adaptation of the two Dan Brown novels namely The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, the 3rd novel and somewhat another controversial entitled Inferno will be released on October 14, 2016. It is somewhat controversial for the Filipinos after the description of Manila as the “Gates of Hell” ignites negative feedback to several officials of the government and sectors. But nevertheless, the book became successful during its release in May 2013.

The Director and producer did Ron Howard and co producer Brian Grazer together with the Doug Belgrad the president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group the announcement in a press conference at the Cuver City in California. According to them production starts on April this year and the iconic character of Robert Langdon will be done by Tom Hanks once again. Columbia Pictures will distribute it.

They also announced that David Koepp will do the screenplay and actors joining Hanks are Felicity Jones, an Oscar nominee this year for her performance in The Theory of Everything, will star opposite Hanks as Dr. Sienna Brooks. Irrfan Khan, one of India’s biggest stars, best known for his roles in Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, and The Lunchbox, takes the role of Harry Sims, also known as The Provost. French actor Omar Sy, best known for his work in the French mega-hit The Intouchables, as well as X-Men: Days of Future Past, the upcoming Jurassic World, and John Wells’ upcoming untitled project, will play Christoph Bruder. Sidse Babett Knudsen, star of the Danish television series “Borgen,” will portray Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey, the head of the World Health Organization. The filmmakers are also in talks with several other internationally recognized actors for major roles.

With the cast being named especially the character of Dr. Brooks who was mentioned in the novel that became a humanitarian in the Philippines helping less fortunate where she saw poverty, hunger, desperation and she was even almost assaulted by group of men but she was saved by and old, deaf Filipina in the novel. Will they shoot here in the Philippines and retell the journey of Dr. Brooks or will they just focus on the story which of course the mystery of the virus that they need to find that Bertrand Zobrist created.

It will be exciting to know that how the producers of the film adaptation of Inferno will recreate the adventure of Langdon this time especially that the bestselling novel reached $1.2 billion worldwide in terms of earnings.
