After getting the best actress award in the recent 2013 Cinemalaya for the film Ekstra, Vilma Santos will have the commercial distribution of her film directed by Jeffrey Jeturian starting August 14 through Star Cinema. The film pays tribute to the untold stories of success, struggles and dedications of the bit players or commonly called ekstra in the Philippines. Joining Vilma Santos in the film are Ruby, Tart Carlos, Cherie Gil, Pilar Pilapil, Nico Antonio, Tom Rodriguez, Direk Marlon Rivera, and Vince de Jesus.
Vilma plays the role of Loida Malabanan, an aspiring artist but ended up as an ekstra in different TV shows and movies. For her it was a fulfillment to have a role and work with her favorite artists that she idolizes. But beyond her “happy” work, Loida struggles as a hardworking single mother raising her family on her own at the same time reflects on the situation of the bit players that was never been a topic in any talk shows.
Ekstra is a touching drama comedy film that also has the special participation of Richard ‘Ser Chief’ Yap, Marian Rivera, and Piolo Pascual. The film is part of the 20th year offering of Star Cinema.
