The grand finale of the acclaimed anime film trilogy arrives exclusively on Netflix
The story of Mononoke reaches its highly anticipated conclusion as Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III – The Curse of the Serpent premieres September 29, exclusively on Netflix.
Since the original TV anime aired in the 2000s, Mononoke has captivated audiences with its distinctive visual style and supernatural stories rooted in human emotions, passions, and grudges. At the center of the story is the mysterious Medicine Seller, who travels to exorcise specters known as mononoke—entities born from the darkness of human nature.
The upcoming film serves as the grand finale of the Mononoke movie trilogy, following Mononoke the Movie: The Phantom in the Rain (2024) and Mononoke the Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage (2025).
Set within the lavish and imposing Ōoku, the trilogy follows women from different levels of the palace hierarchy. Each chapter shifts its focus to women of increasingly higher rank, exploring their struggles, desires, and emotional burdens.

The Phantom in the Rain follows a newly arrived maid, while The Ashes of Rage centers on the Ochurou, the elite concubines of the Ōoku. The final chapter turns its attention to the Midaidokoro, the highest-ranking woman in the Ōoku.
Although each film explores the lives of women from different walks of life, the trilogy weaves together clues and foreshadowing introduced from the very beginning. As the story moves toward its final chapter, these threads converge in an ultimate confrontation.
Chapters I and II are currently streaming on Netflix, giving viewers the opportunity to revisit the story before the trilogy concludes.
Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III – The Curse of the Serpent premieres September 29, only on Netflix.
