Seasoned actress and host Gladys Reyes adds another title to her long list of accomplishments as she makes her recording debut with “Primera Kontrabida,” a playful novelty pop song inspired by the iconic villainous characters she has portrayed throughout her career.
The Star Magic artist turns her well-known “Primera Kontrabida” image into a fun and campy anthem, celebrating the memorable roles that have made her one of Philippine television’s most recognizable kontrabida actresses. The song also offers a tongue-in-cheek reminder that real-life “kontrabida” behavior goes beyond the screen, taking the form of dishonesty, manipulation, and greed.
Among Reyes’ recent kontrabida portrayals is Hazel Cruz in GMA Network’s Cruz vs. Cruz, where she plays a formidable character in the afternoon drama. The role adds another memorable entry to her roster of characters and further showcases her ability to bring complexity and intensity to antagonistic roles.

StarPop teased the release with photos of Reyes’ most famous villainous characters, including Betsy in Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes, Mayet in Ang the Breadwinner Is…, Salve in Here Comes the Groom, and Clara in Mara Clara.
Reyes first performed “Primera Kontrabida” live during the “Primera Kontrabida Sings” event held on August 1 at Riser Lounge, giving audiences a first taste of her venture into music.
The track was composed by ABS-CBN Music creatives, content, and operations head Jonathan Manalo, who also co-produced the song with StarPop label head Roque “Rox” Santos.
With its catchy sound, campy attitude, and playful take on her onscreen persona, “Primera Kontrabida” allows Reyes to celebrate the role she has made her own while showing audiences a different side of her artistry.
“Primera Kontrabida” is now available on music streaming platforms.
