As Silent Sanctuary prepares for its highly anticipated Gabi ng Lambing concert this October, frontman and songwriter Sarkie Sarangay took time to inspire the next generation of Filipino music creators by sharing his songwriting journey during the FILSCAP Master Lecture Series held on July 11 at Trinoma Cinema 1.
Organized by the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (FILSCAP), the event brought together members and non-members of the songwriting community for an afternoon of learning, collaboration, and creative exchange. Aspiring and established songwriters gained valuable insights from some of the country’s respected composers, with Sarangay offering a personal look into the passion, discipline, and experiences that have shaped his music through the years.

Drawing from his journey as both a composer and performer, Sarangay spoke about the importance of staying committed to one’s craft despite the challenges that come with songwriting. He encouraged aspiring musicians to remain dedicated to continuous learning and practice, emphasizing that genuine love for music is the foundation of lasting success.
“Mahalin n’yo ang music at mamahalin niya kayo pabalik. Walang mahirap sa mga taong nagpa-practice at dedicated sa music,” Sarangay shared, reminding participants that perseverance and passion go hand in hand in pursuing a career in music.
The lecture comes at a milestone moment for Silent Sanctuary as the band gears up for its Gabi ng Lambing concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Originally scheduled for October 25, the concert sold out in just five hours, prompting the band to open a second show on October 24 to accommodate overwhelming demand from fans.
As Silent Sanctuary counts down to its historic two-night concert, Sarangay’s message at the FILSCAP Master Lecture Series serves as a fitting reminder that every timeless song begins with an artist who is willing to keep learning, creating, and believing in the power of music.
