Netflix is once again teaming up with acclaimed creator Yeon Sang-ho to expand the Parasyte universe with Parasyte: TAMIYA, a new live-action series premiering worldwide in 2027.
Starring Shioli Kutsuna, the series reunites key creatives behind Parasyte: The Grey, with Yeon Sang-ho developing the story and co-writing the screenplay with Ryu Yong-jae. Kensaku Kakimoto and Kazuhiro Nakagawa direct the series, while WOWPOINT returns as the production company.
Based on Hitoshi Iwaaki’s iconic manga, Parasyte: TAMIYA follows Ryoko Tamiya, a parasite who gradually questions whether humans and parasites can coexist. Told from Tamiya’s perspective, the series explores themes of survival, identity, and what it truly means to be human.
Yeon said he wanted to explore the emotional journey of one of the manga’s most intriguing characters, while praising Kutsuna for bringing Tamiya’s transformation to life. “She did a wonderful job of portraying the process of a non-human creature coming to understand both humanity and its own existence,” he said.
Kutsuna described Tamiya as the most challenging role of her career, saying the experience allowed her to grow both personally and professionally.
Originally serialized from 1988 to 1995, Parasyte has sold around 25 million copies worldwide and remains one of Japan’s most influential manga. Its previous Netflix adaptation, Parasyte: The Grey, became a global hit in 2024, reaching No. 1 in 34 countries and spending four weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Shows.
