Far Eastern University Theater Guild (FTG) marks its 91st season with Karne, a bold and interactive dark comedy written and directed by Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) Senior Artist-Teacher and FTG Artistic Director Dudz Teraña. The production invites audiences into the kitchen of a 1980s Filipino couple, where every glance carries weight, silences speak volumes, and the simmering pot hides more than just spices.
Inspired by Roald Dahl’s “Lamb to the Slaughter,” Karne relocates the story to Lubotan, Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental in 1980. It blends humor with quiet poignancy, combining comedy, mystery, and a portrayal of rural life. Performed in a mix of Bisaya, Tagalog, and English, the play presents a household that reflects the warmth, complexity, and contradictions of Filipino family life.
“This play holds up a mirror to the lived realities of an individual, grounding itself in raw humanness,” said Teraña. “It offers a layered and flavorful approach to staging, bold in form, grounded in truth, and unapologetically relevant. Karne is not just a show; it is an experience that lingers.”

At the center of the story are Mary and Police Captain Patrick Patrosa, a couple navigating the unspoken tensions of marriage. Mary is played by Maria Mayano (IAS’26), with Julia Nicole Ramas (FIT’26) and Janae Dionisio (IAS’28) alternating the role. Patrick is portrayed by RB Pascua (IAS’25), Aaron Bayani (IAS’25), and Arvin Javier (IAS’28).

The events of a single evening escalate into a chain of actions that affect the entire barangay. Friends Dante (Jonas Cunanan, Renz Dotillos, Jharelle Villalobos), Ellen (Dianne Andallo, Maria Ysabelle Delos Reyes), and Maloi (Bjorn Pestaño, Margarita Barrameda, Sheila Peralta) contribute to both humor and conflict. Patrick’s colleagues, Police Lieutenant Elnar (Arvin Javier, Shawn Tarala), Patrolman Enopia (Kristian Samson, Justin Abalos), and Patrolman Credo (Dave Bambang, Kirstan Orbegoso), play roles in intensifying the situation.

Generational perspectives are represented by Mrs. Poblacion (Cassandra Herilla, Irish Oliveros, Trisha Tan) and Estong/Estang (Lorenze Moral, Nash Desonyo, Heleina Li). Market vendor Samuel (Julian Anabo, Migi Mesina) completes the ensemble.
Founded in 1934, the Far Eastern University Theater Guild is one of the oldest student theater organizations in the Philippines.
