“Tawag ng Tanghalan” will see nine singing competition veterans from all over the country fight tooth and nail to get the golden microphone as the Quarter 4 semifinals continues this week (May 14 to 19).

A singer from Metro Manila, three from Luzon, three from Visayas, and two from Mindanao will make sure their voices stand out to get one of the two slots in the grand finals.

Teenagers Arabelle dela Cruz of Calamba, Laguna and Adelene Rabulan of Calumpit, Bulacan may be the youngest in the competition, but having faced defeat several times in the past, their optimism and confidence continue to make them dream.

College students Aljun Alborme of Kidapawan, South Cotabato and JM Bales of Iloilo, meanwhile, both consider “Tawag ng Tanghalan” a ticket to success that will help their parents financially. Aljun’s father is a rubber farmer, while JM’s parents are a fireman and a market vendor.

Competing is what also shaped Reggie Tortugo of Ormoc, Leyte, who at a young age had to join singing contests in order to win cash prizes and support his family. Christian Neil Bahaya of Davao, had snagged a gold medal in the World Championship of Performing Arts, but this time, he will attempt to win the golden microphone and beat the best singers in his own country.

After years of working as a voice coach in China to give his family a better life, Douglas Dagal of Dagupan is determined to win the competition so he can finally be with them and properly save up for their future.

Tragedy and strength are the primary motivators of Arbie Baula of Paranaque, who joined “Tawag ng Tanghalan” to make his father and singing mentor – a stroke victim – happy. She also continues to fight for her family, who has had to endure a house fire twice.

Through “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” Janine Berdin of Cebu hopes to successfully return to her other passions – music and singing – after failing to make a crack in showbiz and appearing in various Kapamilya teleseryes.

Like the previous semifinals, the judges’ scores and the madlang people’s votes will determine the contenders that will make it to the grand finals.

They will be judged based on how they perform their audition song, fight song, song for their families, song of their musical influence, the judges’ choice, and song about their life.

Who among the semifinalists will make it to the grand finals?

Meanwhile, netizens may watch the semifinals live on Showtime.abs-cbn.com/Livestream.

Don’t miss the fun and good vibes in “It’s Showtime,” on ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN HD (Sky Cable ch 167). For the program’s past episode, login to iWant TV or on skyondemand.com.ph for Sky subscribers.
