Yulin, one of the cities in Guangxi Zhuang, China is known for the annual Dog Meat Festival that happened in June 21. There are more than 10, 000 dogs were dreadfully killed along with the cats for meat consumption. This tradition was considered as inhumane, because aside from tortures the dogs and cats are known to be pets and friends and not food. Celebrities and netizens shared their sentiments regarding this alarming situation on how people in Yulin treat pets.
Few weeks ago until the day of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival, celebrities and netizens are calling on the banning of the festival. On social media together with the advocates and activists are campaigning on various petitions to stop this festival and even doing on ground protest in Yulin to intervene with the trucks that have cats and dogs to prevent them to deliver it to the market. #StopYulin2015 is one of the hahstags that netizens continue to use while posting their opinions on the said festival.
