In line with the growing numbers of Filipinos living in the poverty line which is more than 50% up to date saying that they are poor, PLDT KaAsenso, PLDT Smart Foundation, RFM Foundation and Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines Alumni Community (TOSP-AC) initiated a campaign called Project Pagsulong that encourages the Filipino youth to be part of alleviate poverty in the country. Being the future leaders, the Project Pagsulong challenges the youth to involve themselves in nation building through social entrepreneurship campaign that will give huge impact to communities that will help them to implement solutions on their current status and alleviate poverty, promote socio-cultural awareness, environmental protection and many more.

Together with partners Draftfcb, IdeaSpace, GoNegosyo, ambassadors and advocates from various sectors Project Pagsulong will be opening their doors for ideas from Filipino youth ages 18 to 30 years old with a group of 3-5 members to present their projects which might be awarded with grant for implementation. Proposals can be submitted in their website projectpagsulong.ph until August 30, 2012. All proposals will be screened after the deadline of submission and 30 groups will be selected and will be asked to submit expanded and detailed information regarding their projects.

From 30 only, 10 will be selected and will undergo coaching and mentoring headed by the organizers of the Project Pagsulong including PLDT KaAsenso, TOSP-AC and ambassadors to help them in making concrete plans and implementation. From the 10 finalist only three will be receiving a grant of Php 500K, Phph 300K and Php200K, winning entries will be based on the criteria on social impact, feasibility in implementation and the benefit it will give to the community. There will be also People’s Choice which will be announced soon regarding the amount of grant will be given to the winner.

Being it is a social entrepreneurship campaign, I think it is also necessary for the importance of ensuring the cycle of the grant in the project which I am referring to the return of investment (ROI) which it will help to the lengthen of the project and for the benefit of the community for the future expansion and implementation to other communities in the future. It was also ensured that PLDT KaAsenso and PLDT Smart Foundation will be there supporting the winners on their implementation and guiding them on the project especially if they need assistance in the future. The implementation will run from April 2013 from the time that the winners were announced until April 2014. And with the group that has successful implementation PLDT KaAsenso will be carrying them and sharing their stories to others so that other social entrepreneurs will be learning from their experience.
