From Breakups & Breakdowns, Rivalry and Defending the Caveman, Upstart Productions Inc headed by Joel Trinidad brings the Forbidden Broadway in the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at the RCBC Plaza, Makati City on May 11-27. Joining the wacky cast of this Off-Broadway satirical musical show are OJ Mariano, Caisa Borromeo, Liesl Batucan and Lorenz Martinez. The Forbidden Broadway presentation of Upstart was under the direction of Trinidad and musical direction of Onyl Torres with Dingdong Fiel on the piano.
Forbidden Broadway is an Off-Broadway satirical variety show created by the Gerard Alessandrini in 1982. From the year it conceived until now the show has various editions that targets popular musicals including The Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Les Misérables, Annie Get Your Gun, Hairspray, The Lion King, The Music Man, Miss Saigon, Rent and so many more. Aside from the shows, the Forbidden Broadway also targets the performers, creators and members of the production/creative team of the shows which includes big names including Julie Andrews, Kristin Chenoweth, Elton John, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Cameron Mackintosh, Idina Menzel and more.
With Upstart Productions Inc presentation of this show, they will be having the Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits edition that includes Rent, Wicked and Cats to name a few. Aside from that theater goers should expect special appearance of local artists including Jett Pangan, Gabe Mercado, Aiza Seguerra, Nyoy Volante, Cherie Gil, Markki Stroem, Nikki Valdez, Iya Villania and Lea Salonga in selected performances to join the fun and unforgettable satirical revue at the RCBC Plaza on May 11-27. According to Joel, he personally handpicked the cast on this play and coincidentally OJ and Lorenz were part of Rent the Musical that was recently shown in the Philippines which is included in the list of the shows that Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits. According to them it was hard adjusting with the lyrics especially most of us are too familiar with the original. Bus aside from that the cast literally enjoyed doing the production and had the chance to spoof the characters they really love.

Trinidad said that the presentation of Forbidden Broadway may somewhat theater companies to gain more followers from new theater goers who will be seeing the play. With all the shows included in the satirical musical show it will let the theater goers be aware that there are so many beautiful theater shows that is worth watching and from their they will be involve with other theater companies that offers plays that they saw in the Forbidden Broadway.
