It’s been 5 months since Typhoon Sendong (Washi) struck the northern and central part of Mindanao where most affected area includes Iligan and Cagayan de Oro. Together with Local Government Units (LGUs), Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and other private sectors and agencies like the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) joins the crusade in helping the recovery of the families living in this areas. Now to strengthen the campaign and make the process faster the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) joins this project in helping Filipino families fight hunger as they fully recover on the damages and trauma brought by Sendong in the country.
WFP and JICA visited the remote villages of Lanipao, Dulag, Kalilangan and Panoroganan in Iligan City, accessible only by motorcycle, to jointly distribute food, cooking utensils and other items to 750 families who were highly affected by Sendong. Both organization will be rendering humanitarian support humanitarian support in partnership with the local government of Iligan City and the Bangsamoro Development Authority, and also with the participation of the International Monitoring Team and the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
