Different bus companies headed by the bus operators Integrated Metro Bus Operators Association (IMBOA) showed their support for the Pasig River cause by agreeing to give free bus service on October 10, 2010 to the registered runners of the 10.10.10 Run for Pasig River, organized by ABS-CBN Foundation’s Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP).

ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Gina Lopez signed a memorandum of agreement with bus companies under IMBOA (Philippine Corinthian Liner, Mannrose Liner, Mayamy Transport, Cher/JKJ Express, Mersan Transport, RBM Grand Rally Trans, Everlasting/Guardian Angels and Jasper Jean) for this endeavor last Tuesday (October 5).

The free bus service will shuttle runners wearing their race bibs from MRT Taft station to the three kilometer starting line in SM Mall of Asia and MRT Taft station to the five kilometer starting line in CCP Complex. After the race, the bus operators have also agreed to shuttle back the runners from the SM Mall of Asia finish line back to the MRT Taft station or to CCP Complex.

Aside from shuttling runners, the bus companies have also agreed to provide free transport to the runners of KBPIP-supported communities like Estero de Paco and Baseco who will also be running for the Pasig River. Some buses will also be used as ambulance on the race day.

The bus companies will be using more than 80 buses for this endeavor between the time windows of 4:00 am to 9:00 am on the race day.

The free shuttle from bus companies will be a big help to the participants of the 10.10.10 Run for Pasig River who are projected by the organizers to be more than 120,000 runners. If reached, the run will break the current world record for the largest footrace for a cause.

Last November 2009, KBPIP also organized a marathon which had a turnout of 23,000 participants. With a record-120,000 runners expected to run this year, KBPIP hopes to create even wider awareness on the cause and raise more funds for its seven-year campaign to clean the Pasig River.
