>Leading wireless services provider Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) recently inked an agreement with international environmental organization World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines) for an environmental education campaign in the academe.

Under the partnership, SMART will work with WWF-Philippines for Project Connect – the development of education modules advocating energy efficiency and conservation plus renewable energy in selected elementary schools, high schools and universities.

WWF-Philippines Environmental Education Program Team Leader Obel Resurreccion explains, “Project Connect aims to synergize technology with education to nurture and inspire a fresh generation of environmental stewards. Lessons deal mostly with climate change and energy efficiency.”

SMART and WWF will pilot the program in the winning schools of the SMART-supported 2009 National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools.

The nationwide competition done in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) aimed to recognize schools with the best practices in terms of implementing environmental programs.
