>Five-time Grammy Award winner, Christina Aguilera joins the growing circle of Ambassadors and hunger fighter of the United Nation World Food Programme (WFP). She revealed the good news during her guesting in The Oprah Winfrey Show.

“A child dies every 6 seconds of hunger which is a huge statistic for me,” Aguilera told Oprah Winfrey. As a mother, Aguilera sees the importance of taking part of this global challenge.

Aguilera, one of the most successful recording artists of the decade, has a track record of interest and commitment to hunger issues. Last year she traveled to Guatemala to visit WFP;s maternal and children health program. Being the World Hunger Relief spokesperson for WFP, Aguilera with the help of Yum! Brands that includes Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and others raises almost $60 Million in funds within 3 years for WFP and other hunger relief agencies. The campaign that Aguilera headed also created awareness among those who participated.

Last January during the Haiti Earthquake, she joins MTV’s Hope for Haiti, a telethon that raised more that $60 Million for disaster relief for Haiti, including for WFP relief work. This May, Aguilera visit Haiti to help with the relief operations done by WFP and also see first-hand how food assistance projects are helping to rebuild the devastated communities.

“Christina Aguilera’s passion and dedication to hungry children runs deep, and it will make her a wonderful champion in the fight against hunger,” said Josette Sheeran, Executive Director of WFP, and welcoming Aguilera to the WFP team. Christina arrives in Haiti last Tuesday (May 18) and visits two schools; Ecole Saint Terese de Darbonne in Leogane and Ecole Lysee Fritz Pierre Louis in Port-au-Prince.

Aguilera also launches her page in WFP website (http://www.wfp.org/christina-aguilera) where donors can donate from 5$ above where it can help to feed a child in school for a month and for US based they can text WFP to 90999 to make a $5 donation.
