Could the declaration of Martial Law and the cancellation of writ of habeas corpus put the alleged people behind the Maguindanao massacre in jail? Join Abner Mercado as he goes to Maguindanao to check on the situation there under Martial law this Tuesday (Dec 15) on “The Correspondents” on ABS-CBN.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declared Proclamation 1959 in Maguindanao last December 5, enabling the military to arrest and detain suspects without bail and search through their properties. So far, almost 900 pieces of unearthed firearms were found near the Ampatuan’s residence in Shariff Aguak. Four hundred ammunitions were also recovered together with ten armored vehicles. There is also an accusation that ten percent of these properties came from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Under this condition, issues involving armed civilians and hidden wealth of prevailing names in politics in Maguindanao are being talked about and investigated. But the most affected among them are the innocent civilians who are caught in the middle and are forced to leave their homes to ensure their safety.
