Prime Video has renewed Carrie for a second season following the series’ strong debut, which saw it reach No. 1 on the streaming platform in more than 105 countries worldwide. Created by acclaimed showrunner Mike Flanagan, the series premiered on October 7, 2026, and stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret White.

The reimagining of Stephen King’s iconic debut novel expands the story beyond its familiar prom-night tragedy, exploring Carrie’s experiences with bullying, social media pressures, and the challenges of growing up in the modern world. As she navigates a hostile high school environment and her complicated relationship with her fiercely protective mother, Carrie discovers mysterious telekinetic powers that begin to emerge alongside her adolescence.

With the second season, Flanagan and King plan to take the story further, introducing new revelations, major character developments, and unexpected twists. All eight episodes of the first season are available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

“Carrie” has attracted both longtime Stephen King fans and new audiences, including younger viewers and international audiences, with particularly strong engagement among female viewers, according to Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios. He said the response highlights the enduring appeal of King’s story and the broad reach of Flanagan’s adaptation.

Flanagan said the creative team envisioned a story that would continue beyond the events surrounding the prom. He expressed gratitude to King for supporting the expansion of Carrie White’s story and exploring what happens next.

King, who also serves as an executive producer, shared his excitement about the upcoming season, saying he and Flanagan look forward to revealing the next chapter of Carrie’s journey.

The first season follows Carrie, a high school misfit who has spent much of her life isolated at home with her mother. After her father’s sudden death forces her into public high school, she becomes caught in a viral bullying scandal that intensifies the cruelty and scrutiny surrounding her. As tensions rise, her emerging supernatural abilities add another layer to her struggle for control over her life.

Howell leads the cast as Carrie, alongside Sloyan as Margaret, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.

The series also features recurring guest stars and longtime Flanagan collaborators, including Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, and Heather Graham.

Flanagan wrote and executive produces the series, with King also serving as executive producer. Flanagan directed the first two episodes and the final two, while Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick, and Hiromi Kamata directed the remaining episodes. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

First published in 1974, King’s Carrie launched a literary career that has seen his books sell more than 350 million copies worldwide. The novel’s cultural legacy was further cemented by Brian De Palma’s 1976 film adaptation, which received Academy Award nominations. November 3, 2026, marks the film’s 50th anniversary.

With its second season confirmed, Carrie will continue exploring the character’s story beyond the events that have defined previous adaptations, promising new developments from Flanagan and King.
