The magic returns to Hogwarts as HBO’s eight-episode series Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone brings J.K. Rowling’s beloved wizarding world to a new generation, with the series set to premiere Christmas 2026 on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
The first season follows Harry Potter, a young boy who grows up believing there is nothing special about him, according to his Aunt Petunia. His life changes when a mysterious letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrives, opening the door to a hidden world of magic, friendship, and adventure.
But Harry soon discovers that Hogwarts holds secrets of its own. As a dark threat begins to emerge, he must find the courage to face the dangers surrounding him and prove himself against the darkest wizard of all.
The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, alongside John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick.
The young ensemble also includes Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley, Gabriel Harland as George Weasley, Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe, William Nash as Gregory Goyle, and Sirine Saba as Pomona Sprout.
The additional cast features Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley, Richard Durden as Cuthbert Binns, Louise Brealey as Rolanda Hooch, Bríd Brennan as Poppy Pomfrey, Leigh Gill as Griphook, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
Based on Rowling’s bestselling books, the series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod serving as executive producer and director of multiple episodes. The production comes from HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
