Revival King Jojo Mendrez captivated audiences with his emotional performance of his latest single, “Yakap,” during the 17th PMPC Star Awards for Music, where he graced the event as one of the evening’s guest performers.
A heartfelt reimagining of the beloved romantic ballad originally popularized by Junior in 1979, “Yakap” tells the story of finding comfort and happiness in the embrace of a loved one after experiencing deep pain, longing, and heartbreak.
Jojo’s fresh rendition was released on digital platforms last May, with its official lyric video now available on the ABS-CBN Star Music YouTube channel.
Originally composed by George Canseco, Junior, and Fernando Egea, the new version features an arrangement by Tommy Katigbak, with mixing and mastering by Dan Tanedo. The track was produced by Jonathan Manalo, ABS-CBN Music’s Head for Creatives, Content, and Operations.
Prior to “Yakap,” the philanthropic businessman and concert producer released several songs including “Nandito Lang Ako,” “Somewhere In My Past,” and “Valentine,” which have gained recognition on radio stations and digital platforms. He also shared a Christmas offering last year titled “Ngayong Pasko’y Ikaw Pa Rin.”
