After its world premiere in Frankfurt, Germany in 2025 and subsequent performances across Europe, Brown Madonna returns home for its Philippine premiere on August 15–16, 2026 at Myra Beltran Dance Forum in Quezon City. Presented as part of Daloy Dance Company’s 12th anniversary season, the August performances are also a special fundraising event supporting the company’s ongoing artistic work and its upcoming participation in the World Island Exhibition in Yeosu, South Korea this September 2026, where Daloy will proudly represent the Philippines through a series of performances and cultural exchanges.
Created and performed by acclaimed choreographer Ea Torrado, Brown Madonna is a full-length dance theatre work developed over seven years since 2018. Part ritual and part spectacle, the work explores Filipina identity, motherhood, labor, class memory, devotion, and inheritance. Through movement and embodiment, it reflects on the stories, gifts, wounds, and contradictions passed down across generations, from grandmother to mother to daughter, while examining how these experiences shape the contemporary Filipina body.
The Philippine premiere carries particular significance as it will be staged at Myra Beltran Dance Forum, a landmark space for independent contemporary dance practice in the country. Torrado, who began her career with Ballet Manila and Ballet Philippines before founding Daloy Dance Company in 2014, considers the venue an important part of her artistic journey. The work’s themes of motherhood, artistic lineage, and transmission resonate deeply within a space that has nurtured generations of independent dance-makers.
Brown Madonna brings together a distinguished creative team led by Torrado, with costume design by Leeroy New, collaboration costume design by Arvie Santos, and dramaturgy by Eisa Jocson. The project also features dramaturgical support from Alexandra Hennig, Daniel Darwin, and Perky Parong, sound design by Joshua Gramaje, and contributions from a team of collaborators who have helped shape the work through years of research, experimentation, and performance development.
