In line with its season-ender offering, Teatro de Letran, the official theater company of Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Manila, will stage Anino ng Pagtubos, the First Prize–winning play of the 73rd Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature by Aldrine Anzures. The production will run on May 27-30, 2026 at Mabini Hall, located on the 3rd floor of the Collegiate Building.
Anino ng Pagtubos comes to the stage as an urgent and deeply compelling one-act production that confronts the human cost of violence in contemporary Philippine society. Set on a December night in Manila, the story unfolds inside an ordinary sari-sari store, where a seemingly casual conversation between two longtime friends, Migs and Alan, gradually unravels into a devastating moral reckoning. As the night deepens, buried truths begin to surface, forcing both men and the audience to confront difficult questions of guilt, complicity, and responsibility.

Through raw, unflinching dialogue and stark realism, the play examines the fragile bonds of friendship under pressure while interrogating the elusive promise of redemption within a system that rewards silence and obedience. Featuring a dynamic cast led by Edsel Fusio, Elijah Llevares, Ligaya, and Nyx, the production underscores intimacy and emotional urgency. Anino ng Pagtubos ultimately stands as a searing reminder of how the personal and political collide, leaving a lingering impact that extends far beyond the final moment onstage.
The one-act play is directed by Jose L. Madarang III.
