This Saturday, January 31, Magpakailanman unfolds a moving story about finding home in unexpected places and discovering the true meaning of belonging.
Titled “Most Beautiful Player,” the episode stars Mike Tan alongside Andre Paras, Tetay, and Archi Adamos.
Mike Tan delivers a powerful performance as Dido, also known as Yasmine. At just 13, Dido was left behind when his mother had to work to support the family. His father, an alcoholic, failed to show him love and repeatedly criticized him for not being “strong and tough” like his brothers simply because he was gay.
Searching for acceptance, Yasmine found solace in basketball. However, the sport’s toxic environment rejected him for his sexuality, leaving him isolated and broken. Lost and vulnerable, he turned to vices until he found a second family among older gay mentors in a beauty parlor who embraced him, rebuilt his confidence, and taught him self-worth.
With their unwavering support, Yasmine returned to basketball. His talent soon earned him a place on local teams, and he eventually became a mentor himself, guiding younger players and proving that home can be found in the people who believe in you.
In 2020, Yasmine’s journey led him back to the home he once thought he had lost, his father. Upon learning of his father’s illness, Yasmine hesitated but ultimately chose compassion and cared for him in his final months. It was then that he learned a truth long left unspoken. His father had always been proud of him and had accepted his sexuality, but shame had kept him silent.
