AmBisyon2010, the epic project that gathered 20 of the Philippines’ top independent filmmakers led by Brillante Mendoza, Erik Matti, Jeffrey Jeturian, and Raymond Red, makes its return to the silver screen via the Cinemalaya 2010 as one of the featured films for the ANI: Harvest of the Year’s Best section.

Made up of 20 short films on the ten pressing issues in the country, amBisyon2010 will have a special screening in the festival this Saturday (July 17), 9pm at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater).

AmBisyon2010 was conceptualized by indie directors Paolo Villaluna and Emman Dela Cruz with the goal of helping Filipinos prepare for the 2010 elections by presenting to them the nation’s issues in education, poverty, democracy, justice and human rights, health, security, environment, population, economy, and corruption through the eyes of 20 filmmakers.

The project got embroiled in a controversy early this year after Mendoza’s “Ayos Ka” and Jeturian’s “Ganito Tayo Ngayon, Paano Na Tayo Bukas” initially received X-ratings from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board. ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, the creator and producer of amBisyon2010, appealed to the MTRCB and eventually got to screen all 20 films at the CCP, the UP Film Institute, and on ANC SkyCable channel 27.

Other directors in the project are Ditsi Carolino, Kiri Dalena, Henry Frejas, John Torres, Jade Castro, Jon Red, Jerrold Tarog, Ellen Ramos, Pam Miras, Aissa Penafiel, Gym Lumbera, Sunshine Matutina, McRobert Nacario, and Emerson Reyes.

Don’t miss amBisyon2010 at the Cinemalaya 2010 on Saturday (July 17), 9pm at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater).
