With the path of Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) going to Southern Luzon before it finally leaves the Philippine Area of Responsibility tentatively on Wednesday (December 10) coming from Dolores, Northern Samar where it has its first land fall, the Habitat for Humanity officially opened their doors to accept assistance for Typhoon Ruby affected families. They launched the official donation page www.give2habitat.org/philippines/TyphoonHagupit for those who wanted to extend help to the affected families whose homes where badly damaged by the typhoon.
According to the Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDDRRMC), more than 130, 000 families were evacuated in six regions. It was only 13 months ago since Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) where it killed 6, 300 people and damaged 1 million homes. And Habitat for Humanity already supported nearly 28, 000 Haiyan-affected families with emergency shelter and shelter repair kits and begun construction of core houses at ten sites in Cebu and Leyte provinces.
“Habitat for Humanity is sheltering evacuated families in Leyte, Cebu and Surigao del Sur provinces of the Philippines. Staff and materials are prepositioned and we will begin to support affected families to repair their homes. The more funds we raise, the more families we can help,” said Charlie Ayco, Habitat for Humanity Philippines’ CEO and Managing Director.
Funds that will be raised by Habitat for Humanity will assist families and help them rebuild their lives and gain access to decent shelter for them being affected by the typhoon.
