DSWD releases Php 10M to support the victims of the Central Visayas earthquake

In line with the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Central Visayas particularly Bohol and Cebu, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) released Php 10 Million that will provide relief goods for the families being affected by the earthquake. The 7.2 earthquake struck Bohol with Carmen Town in Tagbiliran as the center which also affected Cebu and nearby areas. Up to date 20 were killed and establishments including historical structures were damaged. The earthquake took place in the morning of October 15, around 8am in the morning and until afternoon of the same day aftershock were felt in the area.

Headed by Secretary Dinky Soliman, DSWD had prepositioned 2, 000 family food packs and 100 laminated sacks that were airlifted to Cebu City courtesy of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) with the used of C-130 plane. DSWD had already mobilized all their personnel in Region VII and staff from the Central Office to help on the disaster relief operations.

Based on the 2010 National Statistic Office, they had extracted the report and they had estimated that there were around 342, 549 families coming from 316 barangays in Bohol and Cebu being affected by the earthquake. Local government units (LGUs) in Bohol and Cebu had already suspended classes in their respective areas starting tomorrow to avoid further accidents in connection with the earthquake.
