After successfully portraying the character of Darna in 2005 in GMA 7, Angel Locsin who is now with ABS-CBN Channel 2 will be reprising the role and this time it will be on a big screen. This was confirmed by the Manila Bulletin last Sunday in their website whereas their writer mentioned that it was validated by the Star Cinema Managing Director Malou Santos during her interview. With this confirmation, the speculation on who will be playing the role of the iconic Mars Ravelo character finally set to rest.

The speculation started when ABS-CBN signed contract with the family of Mars Ravelo in acquiring other titles including Captain Barbel, Dyesabel and Darna. With Angel in ABS-CBN everyone started to have ideas that she might be good in the role which she perfectly executed during her stint in the Kapuso network which was later portrayed by Marian Rivera during the reboot of the TV adaptation in 2009.

Darna is a Filipino comic book heroine created by writer Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo that first appeared in the Pilipino Komiks in 1950. Darna is a superhero with superhuman strength that can fly and super speed. With different presentation of the character she gained several powers including regeneration, psychic power, heat vision and other use of her costumes in order to protect herself and defeat her enemies.

Narda is Darna’s alter-ego in order to become a superhero she needs to swallow the white stone and shout the word Darna. And to return to bring back her Narda self she needs to take out the white stone and say Narda.

With Angel doing her role again as Darna and with the capacity of Star Cinema producing great storyline not to mention with their partnership with Reality Entertainment the film Darna will be one of the films to look forward in the future.   Other artists who did the Darna character includes Rosa Del Rosario, Vilma Santos, Nanette Medved, Anjanette Abayari and even the late comedy king Dolphy did the role for the comedy film Darna Kuno.
