After the success of success of the hybrid live action-animated family blockbuster comedy The Smurfs in 2011, Columbia Pictures announces the release of The Smurfs 2 on August 2013. The film reunites original castmembers Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, Hank Azaria, Brendan Gleeson, Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen, George Lopez and Anton Yelchin. The Smurfs 2 is directed by Raja Gosnell and will be the second installment of The Smurf trilogy film.
After Smurfette (Perry), the evil wizard Gargamel (Azaria ) creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties; Vexy (Christina Ricci) and Hackus (J. B. Smoove). This Smurf-like Naughties aim to get the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence that Gargamel wanted to have. After knowing that Vexy and Hackus must be turned to Smurfs in order to fulfill his plan with the help of Smurfette’s magic, he kidnapped the only girl smurf and brought her to Paris to complete the spell.
It is up for Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to the human world and reunite with their human friends Patrick (Harris) and Grace Winslow (Mays) to rescue Smurfette and stop Gargamel’s evil plan.
The Smurfs 2 will be shown in all cinemas nationwide on August 2013 and it is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
